I have had my red fin gourami (Osphronemus laticlavius) for 10 years now. They are one of the smaller of Osphronemus genus with max size of only 45-50 cm. Mine is about 35 cm now and stays in a 470 L tank with a 15 cm Nicaraguan cichlid and a King Tiger Pleco.
He started out very peaceful, but became extremely aggressive towards his various tankmates as soon as they reached a certain size. When they were small he ignored them.
He is fed a varied diet of vegetables and greens, pellets and shrimp. His red color covers his entire body except for the typical gray mask of the species. I have seen some specimens that were all grey and only the fins were red. Not sure if they are a farm raised or something else entirely.
I have found them to be every bit as interactive and responsive as oscars to the outside environment, and yes, they have their mood swings as well! They are long lived fish, with reports of up to 40 years!
